Week one of our CSA program is almost complete, and we have really enjoyed meeting all of our new members over the past few days. Hopefully everyone made some tasty dishes, and enjoyed the harvest as much as we did. The weeks basket included:
We owe a big thanks to a fellow member for this review of her first basket, but mostly for finally having something new to do with those beautiful carrot tops! Click here to visit Fiona's blog to get the recipe for Carrot Top Pesto.
A look at next weeks share: 'Banana' Fingerling and 'Blue Gold' new potatoes will be added as the collards are retired until fall.
Hopefully for next week: Ripe tomatoes and summer squash?
Did anyone get the chance to try the recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes? Did you take a different approach to their preparation? We love to hear about how you are using your produce, so feel free to email us your favorite recipes or techniques for preserving. As many of our members are new to the world of fresh food, they are constantly looking for new information on ways to make the most of their bounty. You can also share on our facebook page as well! Post directly to our timeline, or just tag us in your post.
I'm not sure how we managed, but we found enough dry days to cut over 400 acres of hay. Now it's time to begin preparing for fall crops.
I hope everyone is enjoying these gorgeous evenings lately, as they have been quite pleasant for us. There's nothing like the sunset on the farm to end a long, hard days work. Until next week...
